Daniel Belik and I hosted a 5-day workshop in Universidade Federal do Acre (UFAC) in July 2024 in Rio Branco. This brought together experienced and early career researchers alongside Indigenous leaders and thinkers to discuss the issues facing forest communities in Amazonia, as well as the ways in which traditional communities have been protecting their own environments. Through a shared program and dialogue the workshop sought to support and develop the work and activities of its specific participants while contributing to the longer-term goal of supporting forest communities to evaluate the social, environmental and development challenges they face and plan pathways to their desired futures.
The workshop was funded through the British Council and the Iniciativa Amazônia+10: https://www.britishcouncil.org.br/en/programmes/education/ispf/amazonia
